Polyandry in India refers to the practice of polyandry , whereby a woman has two or more husbands at the same time, either historically on the Indian subcontinent or currently in the country of India. An early example can be found in the Hindu epic Mahabharata , in which Draupadi , daughter of the king of Panchala , is married to five brothers. Polyandry was mainly prevalent in the Kinnaur Region, a part of Himachal in India which is close to the Tibet or currently the Indo-China border. As mentioned in the epic Mahabharata , the Pandavas were banished from their kingdom for thirteen years and they spent the last year hiding in this hilly terrain of Kinnaur. Some Kinaauris claim that this practice has been inherited from the Pandavas, who they identify as their ancestors [ citation needed ]. The Garhwali people similarly identify their practice of polyandry with their descent from the Pandavas. Recent years have seen the rise in fraternal polyandry in the agrarian societies in Malwa region of Punjab to avoid division of farming land.
Support Scroll. Everyone knows that South India and North India are very different in culture, language, and socio-economic development. But the most dramatic regional disparity may be in gender relations. Southern and North Eastern women are more likely to survive infancy, be educated, marry later, choose their own husbands , interact more closely with their husbands, bear fewer children, own more assets, exercise more control over their dowry , socialise with friends , move more freely in their communities and work alongside men. In North and North-West India, women are much more constrained and sex ratios are far higher. Education, paid work and age are all associated with greater economic and physical autonomy. But even if a woman completes secondary school, she is less likely to choose her husband if she lives in the North. Region is a strong predictor of female survival, literacy, autonomy, employment and independent mobility. A woman with the exact same household wealth, caste and religion will likely have more autonomy if she lives in the South.

We're giving it to you straight because we hope to help you avoid the heartache many of us have experience due to the harmful teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. All these post confirming how doctors cheat all the time on their spouse kills me and my hope in a future with him. On top of their day job, they also have to read volumes upon volumes of medical journals to keep up with their profession. Do you believe in the Gospel as taught by the Church. I've luckily broken down my GF's defenses about the church a little bit. Can they keep a job and or clean up after themselves.
